How to apply - 8 steps

The DAFT application process is fairly straightforward and can be approved even before registering your Dutch-based business and showing the initial investment or deposit of €4,500. This can be done before arriving in The Netherlands, since a Dutch residential address is not required at the start of the application. However, within 6 months of your DAFT approval the Dutch immigration authorities will check that core requirements are met, including a registered Dutch address and the KVK business registration.

Step 1

Start your DAFT application with the IND by providing a copy of your U.S. passport and a basic business plan (for ZZP) or your BV business registration.

Step 2

Pay the application fee of €405.

Step 3

Book your flight to The Netherlands once your application has been approved.

Step 4

Schedule a biometrics appointment with the IND to have your photo and fingerprints taken; collect your residence card approximately 2 weeks later.

Step 5

Arrange housing and book an appointment with your local municipality for registration and for your Dutch social security number (or ‘BSN’). Bring your lease agreement or a homeowner’s consent declaration, as well as your apostilled U.S. birth certificate.

Step 6

Book an appointment with the KVK, the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, to register your business once your DigiD (official Dutch digital identity) is available.

Step 7

Open a business bank account and deposit €4,500.

Step 8

Upload proof of your business and capital investment when IND conducts a random check to ensure all DAFT immigration requirements are met.
