Extending your DAFT residence permit

After the initial 2 years, the DAFT residence permit is extendable for 5 years and then every 5 years thereafter, as long as these requirements are kept:

  • The minimum capital investment/deposit of €4,500 has been maintained. This is not only about cash or paid-up capital in your business’s bank account. The business’s overall financial health, including assets and liabilities, is also considered.

  • There has been some business activity, meaning revenue and business expenses. This does not mean the business must be profitable, in fact the annual cash flow does not have to be positive and you do not have to meet any income requirements. Around €5,000 in annual revenues is a good rule of thumb to maintain your DAFT residence permit status and for the extension.

How do you show this business activity? By having a Dutch BECON-certified bookkeeper prepare annual (or interim) balance sheets and profit-and-loss statements.

Should you find yourself in a position where your equity has dropped below the €4,500 minimum requirement, it’s still worth starting the extension process on the day your equity is back at €4,500. While the IND may retroactively revoke your current DAFT permit - creating a gap in your residency - a new DAFT residence permit will still be granted.
